Boracay Island Diving Review

Boracay is more famous for its beautiful beaches than for its diving. However there is interesting reef diving for beginners as well as for more experienced divers.

There are dozens of Dive centres along White Beach! They all have the same prices so choose the one you feel most comfortable with. As most of the dive sites are easy and diving there is quite cheap (around $33 a dive), it is a good place to learn scuba diving or to get your next level certificate.

There are about 25 dive sites around Boracay accessible by a short boat ride. There are shallow and easy spots where you can observe the colourful reef life and stunning coral with parrot fishes, damsel fishes and turtles.

There are also more challenging dive sites like Yapak and Camia reserved for experienced divers because of the depth and current. You can see there pelagic fishes such as Barracudas, Dogtooth Tunas, Trevallies. Whitetip and Blacktip Reef Sharks can also be spotted.

Dive sites like Crocodile Island and Laurel Island are also interesting places close by for underwater macro photography as there are many critters to find, such as Pipefishes, Nudibranchs and brilliant, colourful coral.

It is also possible to enjoy relaxing night dives directly from the beach! Few dive operators also organized short liveaboards trips to explore other nearby Islands.

Best time to Dive in Boracay Island

Diving Season

It is possible to dive all year round in Boracay.

• The visibility is usually very good (20m to 30m) from April to June but it is reduced to only 5m to 10m from December to February because of a high density of Plankton in the water. Between these two periods you can expect a visibility ranging from 15m to 20m.
• The water temperature is usually around 28°C but it is colder from December to February (25°C). Expect a high 32°C in April and May!
• Depending on the monsoon, you will dive either on the East side or the West side of Boracay but conditions are generally good.

Scuba Diving conditions

Water Temperature: 28°C on average, 25°C during Winter. Up to 32°C Celcius during Summer.

Currents: Very gentle in most of the local dive sites ideal for training. It can be fierce in the straits in the channels between the Islands.

Visibility: Average around 15m to 20m. Poor from 5m to 10m from December to February. Very Good up to 30m from April to June.

Snorkelling in Boracay Island

You can either go snorkelling directly off the shore from one of the several fine beaches of the Island or you can take an organised Snorkelling day tour on a boat to visit the best spots around the Island. These will be either on a motorized banca or a sail boat.
